Extended Paractice Finished Chvrches Cover

This is the final cover I did for Chvrches I'm happy with how the piece turned out but I had trouble editing the image properly as I'm only really used to editing images in black and white, being colour blind definitely didn't help on this one.

Extended Practice More Figure Drawings

These figures are different to the previous designs as I did these more recently and I drew the template that I'll be using to design Nike FC kit. As it'll be really easy to just drop the graphics onto the kit in photoshop, But the design for the kit is based on the Nike Flash SS Elite top which is the latest innovation in Nike Football Kits.

Extended Practice Figure Drawings

These are a couple of figure drawings I did initially for the players that are going to be featured in my book. I did these before I rewrote my brief that's why they're in their club kits but I'm going to change these to a Nike FC kit that I'll design. These will be printed out in blue line and then drawn over with brush pen for the finish that I want.

Extended Practice Contextual Research Sports Center

I was looking at these designs by Pitchforks and Tomahawks, I love the way that the designs incorporate text and image and is something that I definitely want to incorporate into my own work. The use of colour is also really strong.

Extended Practice Nike FC Brand Book

https://12elfthman.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/nike_fc_20y_book_all.pdf

I managed to find the brand book for Nike FC, I find it really interesting but it's really solidified that the only thing my project is going to have in common is going to be name. I definitely don't want my publication to be anywhere near as text heavy as this is.

Extended Practice Brief Feedback

I received this feedback from Phil on my brief, It was really helpful in regards to the marketing aspect of my ideas. He also sent me this website about Obesity...

http://shiftn.com/obesity/Full-Map.html

Which is slight;y insane to look at initially, but it's really interesting to look at and looks at the social and psychological reasons for obesity.

Extended Practice Third Updated Brief

Extended Practice London Visit

Andy Walker - Nike Creative Director
Whilst in London I met with Andy to discuss my project, he was really helpful and showed me a lot of the stuff they produced and worked on. It quickly became apparent to me that I was thinking far too small when it comes to this project I need to expand on my initial ideas, I also needed to come up with a reason why I'm doing this project rather than just making work.

Phil Dickinson - Some Ideas
After meeting with Andy I went back and met Phil again and we discussed the brief I'd written, he helped me to rework the brief into something much more valid as a full project. We reworked my initial concept and came up with the idea of giving the project a community aspect that gives the project a reason to exist. He also gave me an idea that I could develop the project so that it can be marketed within different countries as part of the brief.

Extended Practice Initial Book Layouts (Add Images)

I did some rough layouts for the publication, but I didn't feel that they were working as well as I wanted them to, there wasn't really any reason for the book to just be an internal document. i gt back in touch with Phil and went back down to London to meet him again last Thursday.

Extended Practice Updated Brief 2

Extended Practice Meeting with Phil Dickinson

When I was in London I met up with Phil Dickinson who used to work for Nike, He was showing me a lot of the internal publications he produced for Nike and they were really interesting and gave me a better idea of what to produce for this project. He sent me over the PDFs and corresponding videos he made but I can't publish them on my blog. I'm going to rewrite my brief to incorporate and clarify some of my ideas.

Extended Practice Initial Poster Designs

These are my initial designs for the promo posters for Nike FC, the one on the left is my initial very rough design then on the left I started to refine the design and create something a bit more polished. I'm not keen on the drawing for the design on the left as I feel the digital line work just doesn't work as well as the brush pen line art I've used previously, I am happy with how the text turned out though.

I refined my layout for the poster to include the Nike FC branding, I'm fairly happy with how it's turned out but i think I am going to have to come back to this later when I've narrowed down my concept more.

Extended Practice NYCFC Research

One of my key reference points for the branding of this project is NYCFC the team that started last year, I've been looking at the way they've branded themselves as they are probably the most recent high profile team to get a new logo. It was really interesting to look at the way they've applied the logo and created a consistent tone of voice over the body of work.

Extended Practice Nike FC Logo

These are some initial logo designs I came up with for the Nike FC concept, I took the original Nike FC logo and added a monogram to the middle. The dots on top represent the second phase of Nike FC.

These are my initial references fro the logo, I was inspired by the monogram from the NYCFC logo and used the same font (Rockwell) whilst keeping some of the elements from the initial Nike FC logo. I intend to redo this logo at some point but this was to just get some initial ideas down.

Extended Practice Project Proposal Update

01/03/2016

Extended Practice Big Kahuna Project Change

Since I last blogged about this project there has been a big change in what I'm producing as the previous version of this project fell apart due to lack of direction and distinct outcomes, The project is still very similair but has now switched from Adidas to Nike as I have had the opportunity to talk to people who have worked for nike and under advice from Patrick and Ben, I feel it will lead to a much stronger project. The focus of the project is now solely football, This is what I was initially interested in I felt that when I tried to do work based on other sports it just came across as hollow. I'm not worried about my work being to football focussed though as all the previous work that I have in my portfolio has nothing to do with football and this is just starting to fill out my portfolio into areas that I'm interested in going in to. I'm now going to rewrite my brief for this project to update it with my new outcomes and aims.

Extended Practice Hummels Development

I took one of my earlier earlier drawings of Hummels and worked into it, as I wasn't happy with how the initial piece turned out. I think this is a real breakthrough for me and how I move forward with this project, I feel that the added elements make the original piece a lot stronger and give me an idea of how to develop my player based pieces.

Extended Practice Poster Colour Scheme

I made this alternate colour scheme version of the poster based on the roughs from the last design, I feel it works much better than the black and white version but I think it's probably better to wait until we've finalised the background design to move forward with tho colour scheme.

Extended Practice Poster Backgrounds

These were the rough ideas I came up with to send to Matt, I felt that working within the space between the two blocks of type really helped to balance the design. I think the ball design is definitely the strongest as it ties together some of the other elements from the poster, the ball design is based on the official match ball pattern for the Euros. I sent these to Matt and we both agreed to move forward with the ball design. I'm going to create a cleaner version of the ball and Matt is going to create the final version of the background.

Extended Practice Posters Layout

Matt sent me this layout for our poster, Whilst I think the type works really well I feel the design itself comes across as a bit plain due to the black and white background and text. We agreed that a background element was going to be needed.

Extended Practice Posters Contextual Research

I was looking at these posters as part of my contextual research for this brief, I was really interested in how they've taken elements of a clubs brand and adapted them to create something unique whilst still keeping within the ethos of the clubs. Though these are primarily type based I feel they are still relevant to my work as I'm looking at them more in regards to ethos and content.
