Extended Practice New Poster Rough

This is a rough I made for the poster incorporating all 22 players, I like how it's turning out and I think it works well it's very complicated I feel it'll work much better with some slight adjustments like the version on the bottom where I've moved Coutinho down to the bottom left I'll cut him off so he lines up with the rest of the players. I'm going to put the team crest in the top right and have the names of the players along the bottom of the design.

Extended Practice Player List

As I've finished my other briefs now apart from printing and blogging I've expanded the number of players I'll be including as I've returned to my original idea of having younger up and coming players as substitutes. I now have 22 players that make up the squad they are...

First 11

Lloris

Silva   Pique   Bonucci

Pirlo   Lloyd

Neymar   Ronaldo   Sanchez

Zlatan  Kane

Substitutes

Solo

Johnston   Zouma   Aurier

Can   Dier   Neves

Coutinho   Gotze

Morgan   Dybala

The leagues that make up the first round of the competition have been changed slightly as well the leagues now consist of... England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Brazil, North America West and North America East. The players that make up the teams can be broken down into these territories and will make up the promotional material in that nation it'll be combination of players playing in the league or players from that country.

Extended Practice Poster Rough

This is a rough for the poster that will be included in the pack, I was really happy with how the design was looking at this stage and the colour scheme was really working the only problem I was anticipating was trying to find a font to fit in the back of the image.

This is a slightly more resolved version of the image and I don't think it's working anywhere near as well as the original version I just feel like it's lost something between the rough version and the more refined version.

Extended Practice Portrait Colour Schemes

I tried these two colour schemes for my CR7 portrait I think the image on the right works better but the mid blue will need changing as it looks slightly too odd at the moment.

I think this Zlatan portrait I did in the first colour scheme works a lot better though. I'm really happy with how this image has turned out and it's quite validating as I drew from the same reference image at the end of last year and I think this image is so much stronger.

Extended Practice Pack Contextual Research

I've been looking at packs that are similar to what I want to produce, I found this pack that Rapha made this premium packaging for 2016. I love this pack and it's very similar to what I want to produce for my project especially the glossy black on the matte black box.

Extended Practice Mathew Wolff Logo Contextual Research

When designing my logo for the Nike project I was looking at a lot of Matthew Wolff's work I've been following his work for a while and he's been a big influence on the way that I design my work. I really like the work he did for New York City FC the design is really strong and it's what first made me aware of his work.

Extended Practice Contextual Research

I found these illustrations done for PSG's champions league game against Man City, I love the way that these have been produced and incorporating animals into the design was something that I considered early on for my Nike project but I think this would potentially become problematic due to the amount of work I'd have to produce. The way that they've incorporated photography with illustration works really well but unfortunately I won't be able to do this for my project due to the quality of images I'll be able to get where as PSG can just take photos of the players in a studio I'd have to use in game images.

Extended Practice Poster Contextual Research

These are two posters I found on behance they were done for ESPN in 2014 by Justin Van Gerden. I think the designs are really strong and I love the way that they've incorporate the figures in the ball design. The use of type is also really strong and has influenced how i'm approaching it for my Nike project.

Extended Practice Publication Contextual Research

I found this publication about Lazio's Ultras, I really like the way it's been produced and has the kind of aesthetic that I want for the publications I'm going to make. I want to do a similar saddle stitched book. My publication is going to be A4 and I want to do a foil pressed crest on the cover.

Extended Practice Backgrounds

I've been struggling with what to put in the background of my publication as I know I can do the images of the players and that's going to be fine, it's just the backgrounds I've been struggling with I wanted to incorporate some stories about the players but I'm not sure that's going to work anymore as the project's become less about the players.

I found these images for the women's world cup in 2015 I love these and think they're so strong, doing something like this with my illustrations could work really well if I do the background by hand and then edit the images together.

Extended Practice Umbro Packaging

I found this packaging by Umbro for their Medusae silo, I love this packaging and feel it's really strong. As part of this brief I'm gong to be making some packaging but I feel the packaging I'm going to make is much more subtle.

Extended Practice Neymar Drawing

For this project I've resolved to do all my illustrations in illustrator as vectors so that they can be scaled up for things such as billboards, I did the image on the left first and then the one on the left was changed to the newer kit designs. I'm really happy with how they've turned out and I think the illustrations are really strong so I'm going to carry on down this avenue with my work.

Extended Practice Barkley Cover

For the Everton cover we kept the aesthetic of the Liverpool cover and I kept the design simple, I'm happy with how it turned out but I feel that maybe the design should be slightly smaller so that the design is central on the front cover.

Extended Practice Coutinho Cover

This is the final cover for the Liverpool program, I'm really happy with how it's turned out I think the outcome is really strong, I suggested to Matt that we try a coloured or patterned background but he said that the white will work best which I'm happy to go with. If I was working on my own on this project I would have given the player a skin tone rather than having it in black and white, but Matt argued that this version worked best with the design.

Extended Practice Final Posters

These are the final posters for the rest of the players I think the DeBrunye poster works best as the player fits perfectly around the text, I think the posters are really strong and I'm really looking forward to seeing how they look once they've been printed on Wednesday.

Extended Practice Poster Art

These are the illustrations I did for the last 3 posters I think the DeBrunye and Griezzeman illustrations are the strongest, I really struggled with getting the face right on the Morata illustration and I don't think it works quite as well as the other illustrations.

Extended Practice Alli and Gotze Posters

These are the final posters for Alli and Gotze for the next free posters I'm going to change my process slightly as Matt wants the designs to be scalable so I'm going to move to working in illustrator so the designs are vectors while keeping the style that I've used for these two designs.

Extended Practice Nike Zenith Favourite Kits

These are my favourite of the designs that I've done, I think the second design is the best one and the one that i'm going to move forward with there'll probably be a few alterations that I'll make but I think all the major design elements are pretty much there.

Extended Practice More Kit Designs

Extended Practice Update Zenith Logo

I made a place holder logo that I feel fits the Zenith concept slightly better than the initial logo. I'm definitely going to redo this logo I'm just working out what colour scheme I'm going to use on the final kits and then re do the logo design based around them. I really enjoy doing these logo designs and they're definitely something that i want to do more of moving forward.

Extended Practice Feedback

Ultan Coyle - Rapha.
Ultan picked up on what I'd already spoke about with my badge that it worked in isolation but would have been a bit redundant on a football shirt, he suggested that I look at Nasa and military flight patches for inspiration. He also said that I needed to think about the typography and colour I'm using and wether it's appropriate for the audience though for the initial designs the 8 I used was simply to show where it would go. he also said that i should narrow down the kit design options when I send them out.

Phil Dickinson - Some Ideas
Phil made a couple of cosmetic suggestions for the kit designs, but by this point I'd already started to rethink the designs thanks to Ultan's feedback but Phil's feedback was very helpful none the less.

Extended Practice Nike Cosmos Boards

These are some boards I made for the Nike Cosmos project to send out to people I've been contacting through PPP along with the previous kit designs I did, They explain the project and some of the thinking behind it.

Extended Practice Initial Kit Designs

These are my initial kit designs for the Nike Zenith team I've used the star map pattern that I developed as part of the branding and applied it to the shirt, I'm going to send these out to a couple of people I've spoken to recently and see what they say.

Extended Practice Logo Design

This is a logo I developed for the Cosmos concept I really like the logo as a symbol for the overarching project but I'm not sure that it'll work on a football shirt as it seems a bit silly to have a football on a football shirt and i could do something much more interesting for the Zenith logo.

Extended Practice Branding

The branding for this project is going to be based around space and astronomy. The overarching name for project is going to be Nike Cosmos and each league will have it's own space branded name whilst the all-star team will be Nike Zenith, Zenith means the top of it's orbit which I thought was very appropriate for a team of all-star players. I've been looking at making a star map that  I can use as part of the visuals for the project, the one that I've used here is based on the stars that will be visible above London on the day that the team that wins the tournament will play Nike Zenith. Each Zenith player will also have their own star system named after them with the distance between the stars representing time at the clubs and the stars representing different clubs that they've played for.
