Visual Narrative Brief 1 Book Questions

These are some of the questions I came up with for our crit, but after the crit I didn't feel like I really was interested in any of these enough to base the book off them. I'm going to have to spend more time looking into coming up with something new.

Visual Narrative Brief 1 Travelling Man

The final place I went to was travelling man the comic shop and I also included some points from thought bubble. I Found the shop interesting but again I was struggling to come up with anything of substance to base my project off.

Visual Narrative Brief 1 PMT

The second place I went to was "PMT" the guitar shop and although I enjoyed looking at the guitars  I don't think there was anything I wanted to base my project off.

Visual Narrative Brief 1 Kirkstall Road

The first place I went to research for this project was an industrial park near "Control" and "vue". I don't think this place was that interesting or useful in the end, although there were some nice photos.

Visual Language Brief 1 Task 6

Observational drawings I did these by doing a continuous line drawing in pencil and then working on top in a brush pen and then i did something different for each image such as dry brush, copics and sharpies to give each image a different look.

Visual Language Brief 1 Task 5

Working with collage I've really enjoyed doing this I decided to work more with layout and taking a more graphic approach to it I feel the third image is the most successful I really like the diagonal layout of the comic book panels it's a shame I didn't enlarge the text on the left side to align with "midngt." image.

Visual Language Texture

This is a piece I was working on to practice working digitally i'm really happy with how it's turned out I definitely think digital art is something i want to carry on working with. Although there are parts of this piece I want to improve on such as the integration of shadow on the face, but some parts work really well such as the shirt. I've recently been teaching myself to work fully digitally learning from online tutorials and youtube videos and I can see the results in my final pieces, I still need to work on the line quality and texture though I'm going to start exploring different brushes soon. I also looked at how i could place a photo underneath my initial drawing and how this would create a texture to an otherwise flat image. It also relates to some of the earliest work I did for visual Language related to character design.

Visual Language Brief 1 Task 4

I started off with these two paper cut pieces I really like these but I felt i wanted to do something slightly different for this task, So i carried on working with silhouettes and filling pages of them as i did more and more i started to include little details and work more and more on composition i like the way the copic marker creates a texture for the shape. After doing this I started to experiment with the different textures you can get from Different markers and the way they bleed on the page, I also looked at how they'd bled through the page and experimented with drawing over the top of these

Visual Language Brief 1 Task 3

Experimenting with line and mark I'm really happy with how these first two images turned out, Although in the first I feel the line quality could be improved as some of the lines are slightly to thick I also thin the hairline could have been improved. The third image was created using a 0.3 fine liner there are obviously parts of this image that could be improved but overall i'm happy with how it turned out. The final image is my favorite although the the line quality on the hair is off i feel the image works really well especially the jacket, It was created using a sharpie.

Visual Language Brief 1 Task 2

working from reference, I think the 3rd drawing is the best I really like the minimal line. it really makes the piece stand out next to the other two. The first one was done with a brush pen, the second done with pencil and the last done with a 0.05 fine liner pen.

The first full figure drawing I did in my opinion was too labored over and looks too stiff  so with the second and third I set myself to do them as quickly and loosely as possible I think this creates a really nice contrast between the three figures on the page. The last image I did was done with as little line as possible and in all honesty it's probably based more of shape than line but I really like the stencil like quality to it.
