Photoshop Induction 3
In this session i've edited and coloured one of my sketchbook drawings from Matt's workshop. the first thing I did was clean up the image and then add block colour then finally I added highlights using a new layer and changed the setting to multiply so the line art showed up on top of the image and changed the opacity of the highlights to make them more subtle.

Visual Skills Studio Brief 3 Development Work
This is some of my developmental work for this brief I feel that these are the most important pages and images I've worked on so far in this brief, as you can see I've settled on a green, yellow and white colour scheme i chose this as it's the colours Paddy Power tend to use to brand themselves with I also feel it really gives the images a great contrast and really makes them stand out on the page. I think the bottom image is one of the most important for me for this project as it's when my ideas started to come together and i really got my first real inspiration for this project, I really like the use of the grainy photocopy and the juxtaposition of the brightly coloured faces.
After this I've settled on doing fake adverts showing the awful side of Paddy Power and the UK government who won't regulate them as they're getting 300 million in taxes from the fixed betting machines, i also decided to incorporate some of the text from my article into the illustrations in the form of quotes.

Visual Skills Studio Brief 3 Brief Analysis
Our 3rd studio brief for visual skills is 3 editorial illustrations based on an article given to us at random, the first thing I did was analyse my article and pick out some of the major themes and key quotes.
Photoshop Induction 2
This is my final piece from the second Photoshop tutorial, I'm happy with how it turned out. in the session we we're looking at how to apply textures and how layers work.

Visual skills Studio Brief 1 Final piece
Visual Skills Studio Brief 1 Layout
I've decided to work with paper cut as i think this is going to be the easiest way to get the clean graphic edge i was looking for with this image. i really wanted the image to be able to be seen across the room and people would know exactly what it is. I started of with just the silhouette of the Pikachu and then gradually started to remove defining features as seen in the second and third images, I was really happy with hos it turned out the only thing i thought that needed changing was the ears needed leaving as they originally were they lost too much definition by removing the ends.
I also did a quick digital version from my original thumbnail drawing.
Visual Skills Studio Brief 1 sketchbook work
These are my initial ideas in my sketchbook at this point I've decided i'm definitely going to be using the Pikachu design and i'm trying to work out which design would work best as the "s" to go with it. I really like the lightning s in the bottom left corner i think it will work really well thematically with the pikachu not sure what materials to work with at the a2 size yet though.

Visual skills Studio Brief 1 prep work
The first thing we've done for this project is fill out a questionnaire and then give it to a partner and we have to pick 10 words we think are important. After this we worked on two a2 sheets divided in to 64 and we had to come up with 64 images to work with based of the words we picked we had to do 64 images in half an hour we did this twice, this is the exact opposite of the way i would usually work on a project and i really didn't enjoy it I prefer to work in a more considered manner rather than rush lots of ideas out quickly.

Photoshop Induction 1
The original image is on the left and edited photo on the right, the right hand image has been cropped and the levels have been readjusted to be closer to the original illustration we also used the healing brush to get rid of any marks on the paper.
Another rotated and levels adjusted photo to bring out the contrast between the white and black.
The last image we did, we first removed the pen then adjusted then we stretched the top of the image to get rid of the warping from the photo and finally colour balanced it.

Summer 10
For this project based on our summer project we had to do an A2 image with 10 parts to it based of one of our summer project images, at the start of this I was having trouble coming up with a concept as lots of my images were very specific and I had trouble coming up with concepts to base 10 images off. I started working on a idea that I wasn't happy with which was 10 people to avoid on a night out, but after talking to the tutor I decided to change my idea to 10 illustrations based of the Bruce Springsteen album Born to Run, I spent a long time listening to the album and reading the lyrics I realized the album had lots of different characters I decided to consolidate all the characters into one character and use the 10 images as a loose narrative I also kept the inked style from the original 10 images but also used a fine liner for finer details. I was happy with how my final poster turned out though there are also parts I would change such as the text on the first image and the legs on the fifth, I also think if I had more time I would have taken reference images to work from which would have probably drastically improved my final product.
Summer Project
For the summer project early on I decided to keep a limited black and white colour scheme, at the start I planned on only using fine liners and for the first three images I kept this though these took far too long to actually finish. When I was working in my sketchbook I started to use my brush pens and I also started to become more interested in the use of dynamic lighting and this informed how I went about doing the last seven images. I decided to stick with the brush pen as I felt it would work better for the look I was going for. In the end I was really happy with my final pieces there are a few bits I would change such as the first pizza hut image I feel this could have been stronger, I think my favourite of all the images is the Judge Dredd image which had a slightly cleaner fine liner approach than the others. I also got lots of positive feedback for my images, lots of people liked the concepts as well although I think maybe I could have done a bit better on the final execution , I think I definitely made the right decision to stick with black and white images.
Induction Week 1
The first brief we've done was to take a unwanted garment and customize it to make people smile, at first I was having trouble with this task I think I was trying to hard to make my designs fit in with what was already printed on the t shirt and I think in a way I misinterpreted the brief. Due to this I feel if I redid this project there are lots of things I would change such as the first thing i'd change would be to have turned the t shirt inside out and start from a blank canvas, but as i didn't do this for my existing design i went with a zombie theme as I tried to work it around the "I heart domino's" text on the shirt I decided to do "I heart brains" as this made me smile when it was combined with the "student life never tasted so good". some of the things i would have changed is to look for a more effective method to white out the text on the shirt, i would also have whited out the Facebook address. After that i would have made the shirt look dirtier and more destroyed, the last thing i would change is the brains text on the shirt if i had more time I would have worked more on a font because as the paint took so long to dry over the domino's writing I had to rush the "brains" text. I don't think this will be one of my stronger projects but I think it was a learning experience.
